I 'member when you might get 5 madness animations a year at the absolute most outside of madness day. only a few months back and the portal is inundated with just bad madness tests and attempts at animation. I try to tell kids to just wait and take their time. If they want to make a madness animation, save it for the big day.

finally the day comes for the people who actually put the effort in to show off why this day exists.

yey

When voting for a submission that is under judgement, there is almost never any reason to vote 0.5 - 1.5, at least not for a very very long time. You have to play the game if you want to get more voting power so you can accurately judge somebody's work later. It's very hard to do this without voting 0 or 5. When watching somebody who clearly has a cultivatable art talent or can write fairly well it's tough to vote 0 when the piece is too short or has no context outside of a personal scope. I typically go back on things that pass judgement later and vote what I actually think they deserve.

Call it stat whoring but what else can you do? Voting "wrong" every time will get you no points and no influence on something you think should get blammed or saved later. Plus you have very high rank people who are swinging votes and the game almost revolves around them rather than the quality of the work. The hope is that as you gain more voting power, you vote more true to what you think it deserves. Typically, I vote 0 on something I think should get blammed and 2 if it's barely good enough, even if I would want to give it a 0.5 - 1.5. It's the same dilemma as when I was first grinding points really. It is frustrating how the voting power plateaus as you get higher though. Like, somebody who is level 5 has 1/2 the swing as somebody who is level 20? how does that work? I get that you don't want to make people at the top absolutely broken with like 70 vote power or something but damn.

The thing is, I don't even hate the system. I think it's great that there's mechanisms that allow somebody to asses themselves if it gets blammed. I tell most people that are almost good enough "good luck improving" and "submit something more complete" as encouragement bc it matters they don't take a blam personally. If they can reflect and improve on that, that's perfect and what sets NG apart from youtube or twitter.

I hope some artists read this and understand the perspective I have. Discuss your perspective here, even though it's likely nobody will read this. Oh well, I guess after a million years it's back to the portal for me.

I have successfully influenced 1000 submissions to this website.

+400 in a week vs +500 in over years back in 2013 roughly when I left.

crazy

happy 4th y'all

It's so much easier to blam garbage off now than it was when I was first grinding levels in '10-13. The amount of garbage being submitted has also increased so that's something. So many shitty dressup, spot the difference & whatnot games were being spammed and put through likely by bots or something back then. Now we have people uploading 2 second test loops of 1 image for blam farming. On the plus side, since there's a lot more coming in, there's a lot more good stuff submitted too.

Put it this way, takes 401 days to get to lvl 20, in about 380 days (roughly where I was at), I got 99 blams. I come back and in a week I'm almost up to 200. Insane

Redesign? I'm not sure this can be topped. I mean, the pre-redesign of 2007 was good, this blew everybody away and made it impossibly awesome. But, I'd say it's time too, almost 5 years. only 24 days left of this, dang... so long and thanks for being awesome. Hello to the new I guess.

Hopefully this will make it easier to Blam bad submissions, other than vote 5 on them only because you know that's the only way you'll get the points. (that why my save to blam ratio is way off) people who vote Under Judgement need to blam what doesn't belong, you pass WAY too much crap, even if it's somebodys first submission. IF IT IS NOT GOOD VOTE 0 AND GET RID OF IT! You need to vote wisely, not nicely. I'm sick of knowing I can only help pass something bad to help boost my chances of getting that voting power. it doesn't help that there are so many crap games from other websites being spammed all the time. they're not BAD.. but they need to GO, it's all clutter.
