Voting vs Quality

Posted by Brain-washed - July 6th, 2021

When voting for a submission that is under judgement, there is almost never any reason to vote 0.5 - 1.5, at least not for a very very long time. You have to play the game if you want to get more voting power so you can accurately judge somebody's work later. It's very hard to do this without voting 0 or 5. When watching somebody who clearly has a cultivatable art talent or can write fairly well it's tough to vote 0 when the piece is too short or has no context outside of a personal scope. I typically go back on things that pass judgement later and vote what I actually think they deserve.

Call it stat whoring but what else can you do? Voting "wrong" every time will get you no points and no influence on something you think should get blammed or saved later. Plus you have very high rank people who are swinging votes and the game almost revolves around them rather than the quality of the work. The hope is that as you gain more voting power, you vote more true to what you think it deserves. Typically, I vote 0 on something I think should get blammed and 2 if it's barely good enough, even if I would want to give it a 0.5 - 1.5. It's the same dilemma as when I was first grinding points really. It is frustrating how the voting power plateaus as you get higher though. Like, somebody who is level 5 has 1/2 the swing as somebody who is level 20? how does that work? I get that you don't want to make people at the top absolutely broken with like 70 vote power or something but damn.

The thing is, I don't even hate the system. I think it's great that there's mechanisms that allow somebody to asses themselves if it gets blammed. I tell most people that are almost good enough "good luck improving" and "submit something more complete" as encouragement bc it matters they don't take a blam personally. If they can reflect and improve on that, that's perfect and what sets NG apart from youtube or twitter.

I hope some artists read this and understand the perspective I have. Discuss your perspective here, even though it's likely nobody will read this. Oh well, I guess after a million years it's back to the portal for me.

I do the same :P
At first when I started to take part on the movie judgement site I gave 4-5 stars to every "good enough" submissions and I didn't really have any blams until I became a police officer and reached 500 total save/blam points
After that I realized that the portal is maybe not the best.... I mean the submissions seemed to become worse and worse every time I got back there
I started to give 0-1,5 stars and When I reached 16% I already had more than 400 blam points within 2 months
Now I'm almost at 24% and I have almost the same quantity of blam points as saves
I hardly ever give more than 3 stars even if I do the submission generally appears in the end of the month among the featured movies and always go back there to change my given stars less or more if it needs to be changed
Mostly I give less than 2,5 stars to each submissions and give 0 only in that case if it should be blammed.... mostly memes or really low quality works
It's hard not to get mad on that portal.... mainly because of these unacceptable "pieces of art"
But I try to give my best :P

okay he has balmed me so you can hate on me however the fuck ya'll want but I entertain my fans so yeah hate on me however ya'll want but won't stop me from entertaining my fans fuck brain washed. -Esten 2021
